Steve Kim is an R&D/operations executive and an entrepreneur in the MedTech industry. As part of The Foundry’s leadership, Steve is responsible for identifying clinical needs/business opportunities, developing solutions to the needs, and identifying/building teams to execute on company objectives. In 2006, as part of The Foundry, Steve co-founded Miramar Labs, the world’s first and only non-invasive treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis and osmidrosis. As CTO of Miramar Labs, Steve led the development of the non-invasive microwave ablation system, MiraDry, from conception through multiple clinical studies, multi-national approvals, and 5+ years of commercial activity prior to the sale of the company to Sientra Inc. in 2017.

Prior to The Foundry/Miramar Labs, Steve was the VP of R&D at Vivant Medical, where he developed the first commercial microwave ablation device to treat solid tumors. Steve was responsible for R&D and operations, including Regulatory and Quality functions for most of his time there. Vivant was acquired by Tyco Healthcare (now part of Medtronic) in 2005, at which time Steve assumed the role of General Manager until the operations were moved to Tyco’s Colorado facility. Prior to Vivant, Steve was an R&D Program Manager at TransVascular, where he was part of a team that developed catheter-based tools and vascular implants to connect adjacent vessels together completely percutaneously. TransVascular was acquired by Medtronic. Prior to TransVascular, Steve started his career at AneuRx, where he was a key member of the initial team that developed the market-leading endovascular stent-graft to treat Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms. AneuRx was also acquired by Medtronic.

Steve is an inventor on over 150 issued patents. Steve holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly State University and an MS in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.
